Tectura Designs to debut all-new 1-inch thin exterior “paver tiles” and 3/8-inch thin terrazzo tiles at AIA Conference on Architecture 2017
WAUSAU, Wis. — April 19, 2017 — Two new product lines from Tectura Designs will help architects and designers better manage retrofits and other settings where traditional paver and tile thicknesses pose challenges. Tectura is unveiling a versatile thin exterior “paver tile” and a thinner machine-pressed terrazzo tile in booth #3149 at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2017.
The “paver tile” is an innovative machined-pressed concrete paver, for exterior applications, made on equipment traditionally used for manufacturing Tectura’s terrazzo tile. Whereas standard paver thicknesses range from 2” to 4”, these new paver tiles are only 1” – making them lighter and more flexible for use in a variety of environments.
The new, thinner terrazzo tiles — 3/8” thick, compared to 1/2” or 5/8” for traditional terrazzo tiles — match the reduced thickness of porcelain tile and similar flooring products, without compromising strength or durability.
“Our customers are some of the most innovative and creative minds in the field, and we’re always listening and responding to their needs to create products that help them make projects memorable,” said Bryan Borrell, president of Wausau Tile, which introduced the Tectura Designs brand in 2015. “We’ve been making products like these on an as-needed basis for architects, but to meet the growing demand, more and more of our custom creations like these will become standard offerings.”
The two new products follow two other recent innovations from Tectura Designs: the manufacturing of its industry-leading concrete architectural pavers at a 9,500 PSI rating, and the introduction of a new four-color blending process for paver finishes, giving designers and architects unmatched control and flexibility.
